On the Number of Edges in Hypergraphs Critical with Respect to Strong Colourings

چکیده
A colouring of the vertices of a hypergraph G is called strong if, for every edge A, the colours of all vertices in A are distinct. It corresponds to a colouring of the generated graph 0(G) obtained from G by replacing every edge by a clique. We estimate the minimum number of edges possible in a k-critical t-uniform hypergraph with a given number of vertices. In particular we show that, for k ≥ t + 2, the problem reduces in a way to the corresponding problem for graphs. In the case when the generated graph of the hypergraph has bounded clique number, we give a lower bound that is valid for sufficiently large k and is asymptotically tight in k; this bound also holds for list strong colourings.

Conflict-Free Colourings of Uniform Hypergraphs With Few Edges
A coloring of the vertices of a hypergraph H is called conflict-free if each edge e of H contains a vertex whose color does not get repeated in e. The smallest number of colors required for such a coloring is called the conflict-free chromatic number of H, and is denoted by χCF (H). Pach and Tardos studied this parameter for graphs and hypergraphs. Among other things, they proved that for an (2...
متن کاملDiscrepancy in graphs and hypergraphs
Let G be a graph with n vertices and p ( n 2 ) edges, and define the discrepancies discp (G) = maxY⊂V (G) { e(Y )− p (|Y | 2 )} and discp (G) = maxY⊂V (G) { p (|Y | 2 ) − e(Y ) } . We prove that if p(1 − p) ≥ 1/n then discp (G)disc − p (G) ≥ p(1 − p)n3/6400. We also prove a similar inequality for k-uniform hypergraphs, and give related results concerning 2-colourings of k-uniform hypergraphs. O...
متن کاملNon-monochromatic non-rainbow colourings of σ-hypergraphs
One of the most interesting new developments in hypergraph colourings in these last few years has been Voloshin’s notion of colourings of mixed hypergraphs. In this paper we shall study a specific instance of Voloshin’s idea: a non-monochromatic non-rainbow (NMNR) colouring of a hypergraph is a colouring of its vertices such that every edge has at least two vertices coloured with different colo...
متن کاملSecond and Third Extremals of Catacondensed Hexagonal Systems with Respect to the PI Index
The Padmakar-Ivan (PI) index is a Wiener-Szeged-like topological index which reflects certain structural features of organic molecules. The PI index of a graph G is the sum of all edges uv of G of the number of edges which are not equidistant from the vertices u and v. In this paper we obtain the second and third extremals of catacondensed hexagonal systems with respect to the PI index.
متن کاملConstrained colouring and σ-hypergraphs
A constrained colouring or, more specifically, an (α, β)-colouring of a hypergraph H, is an assignment of colours to its vertices such that no edge of H contains less than α or more than β vertices with different colours. This notion, introduced by Bujtás and Tuza, generalises both classical hypergraph colourings and more general Voloshin colourings of hypergraphs. In fact, for r-uniform hyperg...
